Installing the extension
There are two ways in: the Chrome Web Store, or the ZIP package loaded through developer mode. Both give you exactly the same build. Below is each route, how to pin the icon, and what happens the first time you press it.
Before you start
You need Chrome or Edge 116 or newer. That is the version where the side panel arrived, and the panel is the whole interface. Nothing else has to be set up: no account, no key, no configuration file. The package is around 362 KB and it ships no font, no tracker and no remote code.
From the Chrome Web Store
This is the short way. Open the listing from the product page and press Add to Chrome. You will notice Chrome asks you to approve nothing. The four permissions the extension declares raise no install warning at all, and the optional one stays unrequested until you press a button inside the panel yourself.
No store button on the product page?
Then the listing is still in review, and the page offers the ZIP as its first button instead. The ZIP is the same build; installing it now costs you nothing later, since you can switch to the store copy whenever it goes live.
From the ZIP package
- 1
Download the package
The link is on the product page and the file is called onpage-seo-checker.zip.
- 2
Unzip it somewhere you will keep
Chrome loads the extension out of that folder and keeps reading it. Move the folder or delete it and the extension goes with it. Somewhere in your documents is fine; your downloads folder is a bad choice, because sooner or later you will empty it.
- 3
Open the extensions page
Type chrome://extensions in the address bar. On Edge the address is edge://extensions.
- 4
Turn on Developer mode
The switch is at the top right. It is what allows a folder to be loaded at all.
- 5
Press Load unpacked and choose the folder
Pick the folder that has manifest.json directly inside it. The card appears with the icon and the name in your browser's language, and the details page says the extension requires no permissions.
Pin the icon
The extension wakes up when you click its toolbar icon and at no other moment. Chrome grants access to the tab on that click, which is exactly why a button inside the panel cannot do it for you. So keep the icon in reach: press the puzzle piece in the toolbar, find Turk SEM : On Page SEO Checker in the list and press the pin beside it.
The first click
Open an ordinary page and click the icon. The side panel opens on the right and Summary fills immediately: the page it read, by title and full address, then the indexability verdict, the score, the severity bar and the category grid. Two tabs take a moment longer, Robots / AI and Render diff, because they wait for the site's own server to answer. While they wait they say so instead of showing you a blank.
Clicking the icon again on the same page simply reads it again. Nothing piles up and nothing is registered twice.
Pages it cannot read
Browser pages are closed to every extension, this one included: chrome:// addresses, the Chrome Web Store and other extensions' pages. The panel still opens on them and says the page cannot be analyzed. Failing silently would leave you wondering whether the click even landed.
Keeping it up to date
A store copy updates itself on Chrome's own schedule. A folder loaded through developer mode does not. To update that one, download the new ZIP, unzip it over the same folder, then press the reload arrow on the extension's card at chrome://extensions.
One page opens by itself
Right after the install the browser opens the product page in your browser's language. That is the extension's install gate and it is the only address it ever opens on its own.
