Google started its news section in 2005 with its own coding system and has developed it every day since into something genuinely useful. In the early days Google was selective, adding only the news portals people already knew into “Google News”. As you know, that is the strategy it follows with all of its products. These days it carries on adding anyone who meets the criteria. If you meet them right now, there is nothing standing in the way of your being added to Google News.

Which Sites Get Added to Google News?

News sites, blogs, satirical sites and other relevant sites all show up there. Contrary to what people assume, the news section carries more than “news”; blogs can appear too. They just have to meet the criteria. If you run a current affairs site publishing satire, you can apply to be listed in Google News.

Step 1 – Read This Part First

That page holds the “quality guidelines” for portals that want to be listed in Google News. If you satisfy them, you can go ahead and apply.

Step 2 – What You Need to Add to the Site

Start by building a masthead page and put these sections on it.

Grantee
The site owner’s full name plus an email address
Editor in Chief
A different name plus an email address
Editors
No fewer than 3 people, with different names and emails
Night Shift Editor
No fewer than 1 person, with a different name and email
Jurisconsult
Any lawyer, with no email
Financial Advisor
An accountant’s name, with no email
Advertising
Name someone as the advertising contact and be sure to include their email

The address your company uses.
Add a general “email address”

Step 3 – Software and Security

On the masthead, state the software and theme you run. WordPress 4.2.2, Maximsem Themes, that sort of thing.

Step 4 – Contact Address

Build a contact page, and add your contact details and a contact form as well.

Step 5 – Privacy Policy

You need to place the section above somewhere on your site.

Step 6 – Now We Can Apply.

Follow the link below to make the application.

Step 7 – Following the Application Through

Applying to Google News

Click through on the News section and carry on. For your page to appear in News, it has to be a verified site in Webmaster Tools.

General information in the application form

If your site is verified, carrying on brings up a box asking for information. Describe your “news portal” there properly, in clean, correct language.

Adding categories as sections

Here you have to add your categories one by one as sections. The page itself makes that easy enough. The important point is that the parts we described above are complete. While your application is in progress, try to publish as much original news as you can. That will do you a great deal of good.
