Mynet, which worked with Altavista and Google, built search logic of its own for a while but it never took hold. These days the work with Google continues. They are still a long way from building their own search system. If enough state backing came along, then why not, one day. Here I wanted to look back at what Mynet search used to be like. Some of the ideas were nice, and they ran alongside Altavista.
Lower down it covers the “logic query” system they built for searches to be run in 2003. You may find it inspiring.
Logic query
Using the words ve (and), ve değil (and not), yakın (near) and veya (or), it lets you set up a relationship between the words you type into the search box.
ve (and)
Put ve between the words you are looking for and it finds the pages that contain all of them.
Example: resim ve heykel
Finds pages containing both the word for painting and the word for sculpture.
veya (or)
Put veya between the words you are looking for and it finds pages that contain any one of them.
Example: resim veya heykel
Finds pages where either of those two words appears on its own, or where both appear together.
ve değil (and not)
Write ve değil after the word you are looking for and the words that follow are kept out of the results.
Example: resim ve değil heykel
Finds pages that contain the word for painting but not the word for sculpture.
yakın (near)
Put yakın between the words you are looking for and it finds pages that contain all of them, with no more than ten words of distance between the two.
Example: resim yakın heykel
Finds pages containing both words, with no more than ten words between them.
Priority
Pages containing the words typed into the priority box are listed first on the results page.
Example : logic query box: resim ve heykel
Priority : İstanbul
Finds pages containing both words, and lists the ones that also contain İstanbul first in the results.
Start – End
The date menu lets you run your search across pages updated between particular dates.
