As an agency we give universities consultancy free of charge. What we work from is the principle that “our universities should sit higher in the world rankings.” World university rankings split into three groups. In truth there are 4 large institutional bodies producing university rankings, and the most popular of them is the Webometrics system. It has an algorithm of its own built on the G-Factor, and it is a Google based ranking system. Google is our field at Türk SEM. We consult with universities on the criteria and guide them on how to improve.
Academic Staff and Academic Publications
On academic publications, the other three popular systems apart from Webometrics, ARWU, HEEACT and THES-QS, work on close principles. Because it genuinely covers the whole world, Webometrics is widely used. Here we are talking about the work that falls to the academic staff, and even to the students. We go through how to use Google Scholar in detail.
The partners and the staff of our agency come from teaching. They fully grasp the importance Atatürk placed on education, and they expect no financial gain from this work.

The Web Size Basis
Webometrics draws on the power of the internet, reads the incoming data in a meaningful way and produces a ranking from it. Web size is a criterion applied to a university’s website. What the Webometrics bot sees on your site and how it reads it is the work here. Raising the page count is a matter of how that bot moves between pages and how your sitemap is set up.
On the web side, the G-Factor algorithm matters as well. It is a system based on how many backlinks a university’s home page and inner pages receive from the sites of other universities. This too we present to the academic staff in terms they can work with.
Visibility matters a great deal here, and it too rests on the backlink structure. What counts is the number of backlinks coming in from the whole web ecosystem worldwide. This is where we go into what a university can do and how visibility works in detail.
Rich files means the Adobe Acrobat (.pdf), Adobe PostScript (.ps), Microsoft Word (.doc) and Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt) files on a university website. And of course only rich files with genuine academic meaning should go on the site. This is where we cover, under “file management”, exactly what software improvements a university needs to make. Academic content is an important criterion in file management, and it is worth saying that the Webometrics people examine these files.

The Work Is Only a Process of Bringing It Out
What we do at Türk SEM starts from this: “your university already has potential.” All we do is make it legible to the body doing the ranking. That matters more than it sounds, and a great many universities around the world take the Webometrics ranking very seriously.
