When you have a question, or you are after an answer or a solution, sometimes the best way to find it is simply to “Google it.” With so much information reachable in an instant, how do you get your content to stand out from the rest of the online pile? Search engine optimization (SEO) and its many technical sides are what let search engine result pages (SERPs) work in your business's favor.
SEO work (search engine optimization) is not a magic formula that lets you game the system or cheat your way to the first page of the SERPs; it is a body of best practice built around understanding how Google and the other search engines qualify and measure search results.
What Is a SERP?
What is a search engine result page (SERP)? SERPs are the web pages a search engine lists in answer to a searcher's question or query. If you ask a search engine about “Anadolu köpek ırkları” (Anatolian dog breeds), the page that comes back is an example of a SERP. A great deal of information can sit on that page: not only what answers your question, but more besides, such as images of Anatolian dog breeds, other related questions, blog posts on the subject, videos of dogs running and much more. On the result page below, an academic article (DergiPark) takes the first place.

SERP results are decided by matching keywords, the authority a site name carries and other key performance indicators (KPIs). A typical website result appears as a linked identifier with a URL beneath it, a date (though not every result is dated) and a short description of what is on the site. Those elements are known, in order, as the title tag and the meta description.

But the sites on a SERP are not held to those 4 pieces of data alone: with rich results a site's content can be reflected far more fully.
SERP Checker
On this subject, our Keyword Rank Checker (SERP checker) on the Türk SEM tools page is free to use right now. We have not put a limit on it for the time being. It lets you research without limits, at no cost. Whatsmyserp is one of the reference examples in this field worldwide, and you can check through that site as well.
Google Result Pages Against the Other Search Engines
According to Similarweb's research, Google holds by far the largest share of the market with 90.68 percent of all searches carried out online. But even as the most prominent of them, they are not the only company offering search on the web.

The other search engines include:
- Bing (Microsoft) at 3.23 percent;
- Yahoo at 3.17 percent;
- Ask, Yandex, AOL, DuckDuckGo and the other services at around 3 percent between them.
Google and Bing have been rivals for a long time, and over the years many specialists have wondered which search engine gives their business the best result or why their own site is the number one result on Bing but not on Google. Differences in algorithm and different ranking factors usually mean different results depending on which search engine you use.
It is worth remembering, though, that all of these services aim at the same thing: reading the data at hand as accurately as they can to give the person searching the most accurate results.
