The web is going through a serious tremor right now with the March 2026 core update. In our earlier entity moat piece we wrote about quality content forming a brand's “line of defense” in the digital world. As of March 2026, though, Google has set its definition of “quality” on a far harder and more mathematical footing.
What Did You Add to the Knowledge of Humanity? (Information Gain)
When we look at the sites that lost rankings we see one thing in common: telling the same subject from the same perspective, changing only the words. If your content does not offer the knowledge of humanity a new piece of data, a new observation or a different way to a solution, then at its core it is not “original”. Do not let rewritten sentences make you think that content has value.
A good many companies looking for SEO work today believe their 10,000 word content, with the keywords set in bold, is “valuable”. But there is no knowledge in it, only a pile of words that is hard to read and whose main idea is unclear. The era of “getting people to the knowledge fast”, signalled with the December 2025 update, reached its peak with March 2026. Google now recognizes this content, written for bots and read by nobody, better than anyone. As Türk SEM we unfortunately cannot provide an SEO service on sites of that kind. Most of the time we explain the situation to the owners of websites that take this approach and tell them their site needs to be rethought.
The Semantic Filter and Using AI Properly
For anyone who sees SEO as nothing more than giving an AI the command “write me an article about this”, the end of the road is in sight. Content like that does not simply go unread, it damages the general authority of your site as well.
There is a critical distinction to draw here, though:
- The wrong method: handing an AI a blank page and having it write the article.
- The right method: giving the AI your own experience, your observations from the field, your instincts and your research findings as a “data set”.
If the AI structures your own original experience and brings it into a form people will enjoy reading, there is value there. Because even when the “subject and predicate” of those sentences are not yours, what you have lived through is. That is exactly the “information gain” score Google is focused on.
Do Not Panic, Be Ready for the Google Dance
Do not let the heavy movement in the search results and the shifts in ranking frighten you. The Google Dance, a natural part of this process, is the system's effort to settle its new order. On words that nobody owns, after all, we are no longer in the era of sites that sit at the top and fossilise there the way they did 10 or 20 years ago. Even if you slip, there is always hope of coming back to a good position by bringing a new approach to the sector. Do not read your belief in your brand as something momentary, and focus on projects that will still create value decades from now.
Our advice is plain:
- Go over your content without rushing.
- Answer this question honestly: “why would a person read this article to the end?”
- Keep your technical foundation, Next.js, headless architecture and the rest, current with speed and user experience in focus.
Remember, Google knows better than anyone what content nobody reads. The future is not in the word count, it is in the originality of the knowledge and the speed it is served at.
In Closing
As Türk SEM, towards the end of updates like this one we blend Google's own statements, the notes of the global webmaster community and our own experimental data, and put them in front of you. Content of this kind is not about announcing that an update has started, it is more about offering insight.
